There is an explosion of construction activity going on in Calbayog City, Samar. Faster than you can surf through a 100 channel cable TV lineup, Calbayog City, Samar announces another project. It’s like Calbayog City hit the lottery or something! Actually, many of the projects have been planned for some time but are just now coming to fruition. And of course, as sure as flies attract more flies, businesses and corporations all scramble to get in on the action when it involves a share of the almighty Peso.
Recently the long awaited move to the new Wet Market complex and the opening of the new Transportation Terminal in Calbayog City opened the door for Gaisano Grand Mall to begin construction of that large shoping complex. And it seemed like just weeks ago that Centro Department Store broke ground and already they are working on the third story of that building. In addition to other recent project completions like the waterfall at Nijaga Park and the start of construction on the River Front Boardwalk, all these construction startups and announcements point to one thing – that Calbayog City won’t be left behind as the entire country seemingly moves forward during this current economic boom. All these new businesses and amenities can only serve to bolster the city’s future tax revenue collection position. With increased shopping opportunities and increasing tourism comes jobs. All this progress will allow Calbayog City to share the spotlight with other progressive minded cities. And hopefully, the increased revenues that the city will enjoy going forward will be put to good use in repairing and expanding the cities infrastructure. The ball is rolling with hopes that the momentum continues for the greater good of all Calbayognons and Samar residents.
These are just the major projects that are currently underway. The Calbayog Regional Airport just completed it’s renovation and upgrade. There area many other smaller construction projects happening around the city and include new housing starts, business expansions and new startups, along with miscellaneous upgrades and renovations to other properties. As new bridges and roads into the provincial areas get completed, I imagine this city will grow faster than anyone ever envisioned. Progress to Samar is beginning to take hold. I’ve even heard a few more foreigners have settled in!
Go Calbayog City!
